Petrol price set to go up

The latest petrol price increase of 39 cents per litre and 24 cents per litre of diesel, set to take place on Wednesday.

In less than 12 hours, the price of fuel is about to get more expensive than it has ever been before.

The latest petrol price increase of 39 cents per litre and 24 cents per litre of diesel, set to take place on Wednesday, will mean that 95 unleaded petrol in Gauteng will be just four cents short of R14 per litre for the first time in history.

Consumers have been feeling the pinch over the festive season, with per-litre prices rising by 39 cents in December and a further 17 cents in January before Friday’s announcement of the latest hike.

This may be time to make a hasty trip to the nearest petrol station but many motorists argue that even though filling their tanks before midnight might save them a few rands, when the tank gets empty, they will have to face the problem again.

“These hikes are a call for concern now and with the weakening rand, the problem might increase throughout the year,” said Pardon Nkosi adding that he might end up resorting to public transport to save money.

Martha Nkosi said that she and her friends have started a lift club forn White River to Nelspruit but with the ever increasing petrol price they do feel the strain.

“The thing is when the prices go up, salaries remain the same and this causes a big strecth on our budgets causing many to end up in debt,” said Nkosi.
