Legal Aid available to assist vulnerable citizens

One of their success story is that of Mr Julius Mamba who bought furniture in 2001 from one of the local furniture shops and apparently received instalment to pay more than what he was owing to the shop in 2010.

NELSPRUIT- The legal aid office in Nelspruit encourages members of the public with different legal problems to approach their office for assistance.

“As an organization we assist vulnerable and indigent citizens and in we continuously educate them about their rights,” said the organization’s regional communications practitioner in Limpopo and Mpumalanga Ms Noko Madiga.

One of their success story is that of Mr Julius Mamba who bought furniture in 2001 from one of the local furniture shops and apparently received instalment to pay more than what he was owing to the shop in 2010.

“When Julius arrived to seek help in the Nelspruit Justice Centre, He never thought he will be helped, little did he know that our experienced lawyers will help.

He arrived in our offices with Summons that were issued against him by one Acquired  Debt company. Aquired Debt was demanding payment of some money in respect of Savells furniture shop a debt that the client earlier owed,” explained Madiga.

She continued to say Legal Aid issued a Notice to Defend and wrote a letter to Acquired Debt explaining that client is paying Savells and that the Debit Order that they have facilitated via a Garnishee Order through his employer was not necessary and that they have to stop as the client did not owe them and/or their client.

“Acquired Debt in return communicated with our client’s employer and stopped the Debit Order and organized for client to be refunded of all the monies that were debited.

The client’s employer co-operated and the debit order was successfully stopped and client was refunded his monies that were debited through his employer by this Acquired Debt,” she said.

Madiga continued to say Acquired debt was requested by their office to withdraw their action which they did.

“Halala Legal Aid keep helping the needy and really appreciate the good work that you have done for me,” said the jubilant Julius.
