AfriForum steps in to end water crisis

Residents allege that appointed officials are there to enrich themselves instead of providing a service to the community.

AfriForum has said that it is working with residents of Standerton to initiate and action plan in order to solve the continuing water crisis in the city that according to them, the Lekwa Municipality has failed to address.

Organiser for AfriForum in Mpumalanga , Mr Ruan Lottering  said that every citizen has a right to water, and in view of the failure of the municipality to provide this service, the local branch will assist residents to take the necessary steps to solve the crisis.

He mentioned that steps will include criminal charges against officials who misspent the funds earmarked for the crisis and ensuring that the guilty parties held accountable and even removed from their posts.

“AfriForum will work with the relevant organisations and departments to improve the water infrastructure in the town, in order to provide clean potable water to all the Standerton residents,” said Lottering.

“The problem will not be solved if we do not have capable and dedicated people in the Municipality.

Residents allege that appointed officials are there to enrich themselves instead of providing a service to the community,” said Hester Grint, a resident of Standerton.

AfriForum has handled similar cases and they are confident that it is possible to solve problems such as these with the co-operation of the community.
