Wind down in an unusual way

A truly unique gathering called In Unity We Drum

NELSPRUIT – For those who do not know, a drum circle is a group of people playing hand drums and percussion in a circle. It is different from a drumming group as there is no preparation for a performance. A drum circle can range in size from a handful of players to circles with thousands of participants.

Typically, people gather to drum in circles with others from the surrounding community such as the Lowveld. It offers equality because there is no head or tail. The main objective is to share rhythm and become in tune with one another and themselves. To form a group consciousness and to interact with one another.

Tipis African Guest Lodge held a drum circle in conjunction with In Unity We Drum on Saturday evening. People of all ages attended and a new and collective voice seemed to have emerged. The event allowed the community to sit by the fire, grab a drum and wind down from all the worries of everyday life. Raquel Lopez, organiser of the event said, “When you have the chance to hit something as hard as you can without breaking it, and having fun at the same time, it is one of the best ways to forget your worries”, and that is exactly what those who attended did.

Fire dancers were also part of this gathering, including a group called Phoenix Fire, which also kept the crowd entertained through this truly unique evening.
