Woman’s body found

The body, with a scar on the neck, was found in an advanced state of decomposition. It was also alleged that large sticks had been forced into the orifices.

LIHAWU – An unidentified 25-year-old woman was brutally killed after allegedly being raped and her lifeless body dumped on the roadside near Vukasambe School.

The body, with a scar on the neck, was found in an advanced state of decomposition. It was also alleged that large sticks had been forced into the orifices.

This incident had left many residents in shock as it was one of the worst-ever incidents of the brutal killing of a woman in the area.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, the spokesperson for Pienaar Police Station, Sgt Jabu Ndubane said,

“We’d like to urge community members who have a missing female family member, to come forward. “We can’t conduct a post-mortem until we find the family of the deceased, and we suspect she had been raped before she was murdered.”

The MEC for safety, security and community liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe, condemned the incident as such acts were becoming a normal part of daily life.

In an interview with Mpumalanga News he said, “I don’t want to lie, I’m not happy about what is going on in Pienaar and surrounding areas.

It looks like the place is turning out to be a no-go area for women and I’m not going to tolerate that because its now clear that they are being targeted.”

He said this year the department would do more in terms of hosting workshops for men to give them a platform to talk about issues affecting them and also to teach them about morals.

Pienaar was rated among places with the highest crime statistics in the country, but it was believed that the step Shongwe took of deploying Amaberets, had started to yield positive results.

The area again came into the spotlight late last year when the brutal murder of women seemed to be a normal part of daily life, demanding serious attention.

Some residents previously called upon Shongwe to deploy more Amaberets so that those who were giving the residents sleepless nights, could face the full might of the law.

He said, “This means that as a department, police and other security agencies, we need to revisit that area because there are people who are heartless and murder women brutally. This is a free country, which means that women must also feel free,” he concluded.
