ANC stalls selling illegal wares?

ANC stalls in the capital city this past week, raised questions about the lawfulness of this kind of enterprise

NELSPRUIT – The proliferation of ANC stalls in the capital city this past week, raised questions about the lawfulness of this kind of enterprise.

Various merchants erected stalls in front of the ANC offices selling ANC-branded hats, T-shirts, flags, shoes, stickers and number plates. This formed part of the activities surrounding the ANC’s visit to the province.

One of our journalists went to inspect these stalls, and found that almost none of them had the correct documentation to sell their merchandise. Only two out of 15 were able to present a signed document with accreditation, accompanied by a merchant card that gave them permission to sell their wares.

Of particular concern was the sale of number plates saying, “Vote ANC”. Seeing that it is illegal to cover your number plate, it is hard to understand why this was allowed to be sold, and why the ANC allowed the merchants to sell their products without accreditation.

By the time of going to press, there was not yet any comment on the issue from the spokesman for Mbombela Local Municipality, Mr Joseph Ngala.
