An apparent highly intoxicated driver and five thieves were arrested during the festive season. According to Bossies Community Justice, a young man who was apparently over the alcohol limit, was driving a blue Ford Sierra down Halsnoer Crescent on Saturday afternoon. He said the man then turned at The Leaves Guest House and drove into another stationery vehicle.

“He then veered to the right and drove into with an SUV Mercedes-Benz and just drove off.”

Meiring said the driver crashed into a tree in a garden in De Kok Street when he again lost control of his vehicle, but left the scene and headed for his home in Piet Retief Street.

They managed to track him to his home where police arrested him on charges of drunken driving and malicious damage to property.

On December 30, a local doctor who was attending a service at Church Unlimited became the victim of theft. According to Meiring, the robbers had stolen his firearm, his wife’s handbag and cellphone from his vehicle.

The SAPS Flying Squad and Hi-Tech Security together with Bossies Community Justice then traced the phone to a premises in Kamagugu. He said they then arrested five suspects the following day and discovered more stolen items on the scene. There was also a laptop that had been stolen that morning out of a vehicle at Wimpy parking lot in Ferreira Street.
