Mayor happy with results

She also applauded the department of education and MEC Ms Reginah Mhaule for steering this department to greener pastures.

MBOMBELA – The Mbombela executive mayor, Cllr Cathy Dlamini has applauded the matric class of 2013 following their recent achievements.

Speaking to this paper after the provincial announcement of the results, Dlamini said Nelson Mandela would be very proud of the learners and their achievements.

“I have no doubt in my mind that the icon is happy and rejoicing wherever he is because all that he ever wanted for our children was for them to put education first and that is the reason why the ANC government made education one of its priorities.

“It gives us great joy as the ANC-led municipality to be part of such a winning class and to have contributed meaningfully towards our children’s successes.”

She also applauded the department of education and MEC Ms Reginah Mhaule for steering this department to greener pastures.

“Had it not been for the leadership of the MEC and her entire workforce, our children wouldn’t have performed so excellently.

“As a municipality we will always continue to support any educational programmes that seek to help educate our children.

“We commit ourselves in working with the educational department in ensuring that our children are at school learning and teachers teaching,” she continued.

“As they prepare to go to tertiary institutions, we would like to urge them to always look after themselves and remember where they come from. We would also like to remind them that it was through the sacrifices of Nelson Mandela that today they are able to receive quality and free education and therefore mustn’t forget Mandela and the ANC,” concluded Dlamini.

The province improved its results to 77, 6 per cent and has set a target of a 10 per cent increment for the 2014 results.
