SCHOEMANSKLOOF – Two people were killed in a collision on the N4 at the turn to Lydenburg early this
morning. Two more were taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The accident occurred at about 06:00 when the driver of a minibus taxi apparently lost control
after which it collided with an oncoming vehicle.
The minibus, of which two occupants were killed and one critically injured, was underway to Mozambique
and travelling in Nelspruit’s direction. The driver, Mr Edward Anton Mafundla, survived this horrific crash.
He told Lowvelder on the scene that a tyre had burst while he was exiting a sharp turn.
He lost control and his taxi collided head on with a Mazda 323 which swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision.
The minibus then collided with the Mazda and ended up in a ditch next to the road. The driver of the
Mazda was critically injured and airlifted to a nearby hospital. There was one other occupant in this vehicle
,
who also sustained injuries but whose condition was described as stable by paramedics.
