Residents voice concerns regarding health care

KABOKWENI – Community members gathered to attend a dialogue organised the
Department of Health.
It was held in order for the department to listen to
the input of the community and the challenges they face in public hospitals and
clinics pertaining to health issues.
Many of the challenges identified during
the session were not new, but the department promised to put a stop to such
behaviour. Most of the members complained about the poor services they received
from public health-care centres, especially in KaBokweni.
The people said
they felt betrayed by the nurses as their illnesses were made known to the
public.
“With the attitude the nurses have, I don’t think I will ever visit
the clinic again because they treat us like we are insane while they know we are
in pain,” said a community member who wished to remain anonymous.
According
to the source such dialogues will be helpful but change comes within an
individual, not the management.
“I don’t think this will work any time soon,
the nurses have been like this for a long time and they will not change,” she
said.
The department and the community discussed many critical health-care
issues. “With this information we now have, we know that we will make a
difference and we will work out all the issues that are affecting our people in
clinics and in the hospital,” said Ms Rebecca Maile.
