Ancyl finally ready to host its congress

The sitting of the congress has been postponed a number of times due to unforseen circumstances.

SECUNDA – This mining area will be the battle grounds for the historic ANC Youth League’s provincial congress where a new leadership structure will be elected.

After successful rounds of regional congresses the provincial task team (PTT) has finally come up with a date for the provincial conference, scheduled for this weekend.

The sitting of the congress has been postponed a number of times due to unforseen circumstances.

The PTT had earlier said it was ready for the provincial congress and committed itself and regions to hold its regional congresses in order to make way for the provincial conference by December, so that the national task team (NTT) can prepare for the national congress early next year.

“After considering reports from the RTT, we are confident that our process of rebuilding structures is on course. By this indication, we will be able to take regions to their congresses and a provincial congress by December,” said the PTT’s coordinator, Mr Vusi Mkhatshwa at the time.

Earlier this week Mkhatshwa confirmed with Mpumalanga News that the provincial congress was going ahead as planned and would run from tomorrow until Sunday.

“This time it will take place and we will have a new democratically elected leadership by the end of the weekend,” he said.

When asked what was going to happen to the PTT after the congress, Mkhatshwa said, “Part of our task was to rebuild the structures of the youth league, which involved making sure that the branches, regional and provincial structures were properly set up. After this congress, the PTT would have done its task and therefore it is going to dissolve.”

He said they would first have to compile a report for the NTT, which would eventually take over and start preparing for the national congress where a new national leadership would be elected.

This paper has since learnt that most regions have nominated Mr Desmond Moela to lead them as the league’s chairperson.

Moela, who declined to comment, is a staunch and well-known Ancyl supporter who served at regional level as the league’s spokesperson and he is likely to get the backing of all the regions.
