Community is allegedly gaining negative reputation due to lack of services

Residents complained about leaking sewerage, which ran in the streets and that they usually did not have water for weeks.

THULAMAHASHE – This township is apparently fast gaining a negative reputation due to lack of services.

This is according to COPE in Mpumalanga which reported that it had discovered that the township that used to be the pride of the Bushbuckridge area, is now gaining the reputation of being the worst in terms of lack of service delivery.

Thulamahashe was one of the first places to receive tap water many decades ago while it was still under the former government, but according to the opposition party, at the moment, residents strive to obtain water despite the fact that it is surrounded by two rivers.

After COPE voiced its claims, Mpumalanga News spoke to community members, trying to establish the truth behind the claims. A number of them confirmed that the situation had gone from bad to worse in a short space of time.

Residents complained about leaking sewerage, which ran in the streets and that they usually did not have water for weeks.

“The problem is that we don’t have councillors who have our interests at heart. Once they obtain a position, they relocate to urban areas such as Hazyview and leave us alone to fend for ourselves. A proper councillor must live among the community and also go through these troubles with us,” said Mr Frank Mnisi. He added that unless the ruling party changed its mindset and put people first, service delivery would continue to be a challenge for the country.
