Court finds soccer coach guilty on rape charge

A soccer coach found guilty of raping a nine year-old boy.

NELSPRUIT – A soccer coach was sentenced to life imprisonment after he raped a nine-year-old boy.

Jabulani Nkosi (21) appeared in the Nelspruit Sexual Offences Court last week  Monday . Magistrate Mr Roelf Smith handed down sentence. He said Nkosi had taken his position as a coach and abused the trust the families had placed in him.

Nkosi was arrested on July 26, 2012. He was teaching soccer to boys at a local school in the Klau Klau area. The victim was a member of the team he was coaching. On the day of the incident, Nkosi took the boy to his house after practice, where he proceeded to rape him.

Afterwards the boy told his older brother what had happened to him. He then notified his parents who immediately phoned the police. Smith said there seemed to be an increase in sexual offences perpetrated against boys in the area.
