MATSULU- A one- year-nine month baby boy tragically died when he was electrocuted by illegal electricty cables while playing with his friends near his home at Matsulu.
According to the local police spokesperson Const Edith Khumalo the incidence happened on December 5 around 10:00 while the minor was playing with other children .
Khumalo urged the community to discontinue the use of illegal electricity popularly known as Izinyokanyoka as they are extremely dangerous to everyone.
She stated that it was not the first accident to happen in the area. “Incidents of this nature are very common in the area, last year a child was also electrocuted but luckily did not die,” she said.
She mentioned that besides the fact that Eskom and the police disconnected illegal connections on several occassions the community continue to re-connect and use them.
