Commuters demanding traffic lights at intersection

Commuters are pleading for action to be taken to curb the risk of accidents at this crossing.

NELSPRUIT – Commuters are still waiting for the installation of traffic lights at the Karino intersection.

It has been months since the demands were made, but there have been no developments as yet. Commuters are still asking when the department of public works is going to provide them with this service which they clearly need.

“As usual, the government has failed the people it is supposed to serve. I won’t be surprised if they are installed next year just before we go to the polls so that they can get our votes,” said

Mr Sibongiseni Nkambule, who uses this road daily.

Another commuter shared similar sentiments, “The number of cars driving to and from town has escalated even more this year. And it looks as if it will be even worse when the festive season kicks in because some people drive while drunk and endanger others. There has to be some extra control on this route before more lives are lost.”

As we approach the festive season, there are obvious concerns about the number of accidents that occur nationally. Some could be prevented by maintaining roads and regulating the flow of vehicles with traffic officers.

Road users in private cars are advised to leave their homes 30 minutes earlier when driving to work and those who use public transport should take earlier buses or taxis. Mpumalanga News contacted media liaison officer,

Mr Dumsani Malamule of public works, but he had not responded at the time of going to press.
