Group editor of Lowveld Media gets prestigious award

The KLCBT Leadership Award recognises leadership and or outstanding service by an individual or individuals in the community. It is a prestigious and unique award that is not necessarily awarded every year

NELSPRUIT – Accolades went to the Group Editor of Lowveld Media, Ms Irma Green, on Friday night at the annual Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism awards ceremony, when she won the KPMG Leadership Award.

The KLCT had the following to say about Green. “She is responsible for many publications within the Lowveld Media stable. Apart from keeping track with daily deadlines, she must answer many calls about sensitive issues after they appeared in the press, and many of them are not exactly friendly, but remains unwavering in her principles based on the highest ethical conduct and integrity.

“She is an important community leader when it comes to serious issues like crime prevention and everything that is important in the Lowveld from the Pumas to the Nelspruit name change case. She is a true ambassador for Nelspruit and the Lowveld. Although she is constantly in a very hot seat, she always has an unbelievable calm spirit and the ability to lead her team at Lowveld Media with a strong but loving hand. Irma recently celebrated 21 years with the Caxton group, a formidable career with many highlights.

“In 2012 she as appointed to represent the group at the Press Commission and the latest addition in Irma’s career is managing the national Caxton and SANPark project. This is a multi-million project and biggest ever social investment project Caxton has lead.

“During Irma’s career as journalist she receives both the Caxton and Sanlam awards for best journalist of the year. Irma received several awards as best editor and her publications and many journalists in her team were awarded for their work. She is a great leader and an inspiration for the women in the Lowveld.”

The KLCBT Leadership Award recognises leadership and or outstanding service by an individual or individuals in the community. It is a prestigious and unique award that is not necessarily awarded every year.

Previous recipients of this award were Mr. Nico van Zyl (Snr) in 2000 and in 2002, it was awarded jointly to Dr. Thys von Mollendorff and Ms. Barbara Kenyon.

No award was made in 2003. Dr and Mrs Mathews Phosa were recipients of the Award in 2004, and in 2005 this award went to Mr Roelf Kotze. In 2006 Sandra Jacobs and Mr Andy Lubbe jointly received this prestigious award and 2007 once again no award was given. Dr Louis Swanepoel received it in 2008, 2009 it went to Mr Chris Barnard, in 2010 to the Mbombela Mayor, Mr Lassy Chiwayo in 2011 it was Pastor TJ Mare.

The awards ceremony was a historic occasion as it was the first event held in the newly built Emnotweni Arena. All the Lowveld’s leading businesses were also awarded for their excellence. A full report and gallery of the event will be posted during the week.
