Youth League warns EFF on economic freedom

This was a stern warning against the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters issued by the Ehlanzeni Regional Task Team Coordinator.

MBOMBELA – “On the occasion of the 24th National Congress of the ANC Youth League that took place in June 2011, a resolution that economic freedom in our life time was taken by us and therefore, no one else must claim that outside the structures of the Ancyl.”(sic)

This was a stern warning against the newly formed Economic Freedom Fighters issued by the Ehlanzeni Regional Task Team Coordinator, Mr Desmond Moela during the historic 5th Ancyl Ehlanzeni Regional Congress held over the past weekend at the EDM Disaster Management conference centre.

“This Regional Congress of the Ancyl is convening at the crucial time under the theme, Economic Freedom in our Lifetime.

“It must be emphasised that, economic freedom is only guaranteed under the leadership of the ANC. The process of engaging leadership must continue so that we are able to reach consensus on the rollover of the economic freedom programme,” said Moela when addressing youth league delegates who had gathered there to elect new leadership.

“To achieve this we must be frank with each other and be able to ask ourselves critical questions or conduct some introspection. Are we really championing the interest of the youth of our region or not? Are we rallying behind the vision of the ANC or not? Lastly, is the revolution safe in our hands?

“These are issues which require us to respond, through our body language and articulation at all times,” he went on.

He called on young people to refuse to be the generation that will compromise disadvantaged youths and the struggle for youth emancipation.

He added that youth league members, especially the new recruits, need to understand the workings of the ANC and of the youth league.

“This RTT saw it relevant to take its time in reminding comrades about the nature of the organisation that brought us here today.

Without understanding what the ANC and the Ancyl is all about, we cannot do justice to our core mandate and role in the mass democratisation movement and the young men and women who look upon us for leadership, and, most importantly, who need our intervention in providing solutions to the socio-economic and socio-political challenges of today’s social fabric. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, this congress must meet the different needs of all types of cadres who are members of the youth league.”
