Mbombela municipality scoops nine awards

It is the third time in a row this municipality is making a sweep during these awards.

MBOMBELA – The Mbombela local municipality scooped nine awards during the PMR Africa awards held last Friday at the Umbali conference centre just outside Nelspruit.

This municipality was awarded in the categories, municipalities doing most for social upliftment, municipalities doing most to attract foreign investment, municipalities doing most to attract local investment, municipalities doing most to attract tourism, municipalities doing most for job creation, municipalities doing most to fight crime and municipalities doing most to clean the environment.

And as if this was not enough, the executive mayor of this municipality, Cllr Cathy Dlamini was awarded with her own award in the category, pro-active mayors in the past 12 months.

The jubilant Dlamini said it was such a great honour for her to be recognised in this manner and that her institution is viewed by many as the best performing municipality and doing its bit to uplift the standard of living for its people.

“This calls for us to do more as it only means that the people out there are satisfied with the work we are doing and that we are representing the province well as a municipality.

These awards are the true reflection of what the people of the province are saying about us, because the people who are doing the research are totally independent.

So it gives us great pleasure to see that our efforts to work for our people are recognised. It’s really motivating to see what other feel about us,” said Dlamini.

“We need to do more because people appreciate what we are doing and they see the impact and it says to us that we should step up the gear and do more. As a matter facts, we have a very big vision for this municipality and with the support of our local businesses who some of them were also awarded today we will do more.

I must point out that these businesses contribute meaningfully to the growth of this municipality and our economy and I would like to applaud all those that were awarded,” she went on.

She said these recent successes were results of team work and dedication from all the institution’s employees.

“I would like to commend the work done by our political representatives in this municipality and all our employees including general workers in the streets, because without them we wouldn’t have been recognised in the manner we have been. They must continue doing the good work and continue to work for the people,” she went on.

“What we are doing people are appreciating
