A call for unity at annual ummemo

Chieftess Eva Mkhatshwa called for unity and the preservation of Swazi culture which she pointed out that it was vital to enhance development within communities.

MGOBODZI – It was such a fan-fair during the annual ummeo ceremony in this tiny village when the Mawewe traditional authority gathered subjects from in and around here, including from neighbouring Swaziland.

During her main address, Chieftess Eva Mkhatshwa, called for unity and the preservation of Swazi culture which she pointed out that it was vital to enhance development within communities.

“My earest plea to you all, is that if we preserve our cultural values, then we will be in a position to address pertinent issues that are vital for our survival. That will also transcend to service delivery within our comunities and be bale to create jobs for our people,” she said.

The ceremony was also blessed by the presence of the late King Sobhuza ll’s son, Prince Mgicisi Dlamini, from Swaziland, who also addressed the ummemo and echoed Mkhatshwa’s call for unity and the preservation of the Swazi culture and tradition. “For us from the Kingdom of Swaziland, it gratifies us a lot to be visiting here and sharing in our authentic Swazi culture and tradition,” he said.

also in attendance ws deputy chairperson of the house of traditional leaders in the province, Inkhosi Sandile Ngomane and various chiefs from around the province.

The day was blessed with cultural dances and music from Emajaha, Lutsango Lwabomake and Tintfombi Temcwasho all of whom added to the colourful event on Saturday.

After the official ceremony, they feasted until late into the evening.
