Business robberies are now becoming a norm

Several incidents of business robberies started to turn to be a normal part of life.

BARBERTON – As we are approaching the festive season, criminals in town are giving business people sleepless nights.

This comes after several incidents of business robberies started to turn to be a normal part of life. It started to be in the spotlight a few weeks ago when Pappa’s restaurant was robbed and last week Furnmart furniture shop was also robbed.

According to one of the workers at the shop, who was there when this incident occurred and whose name can’t be revealed for safety reasons, said while she was busy talking on the phone inside the shop, two armed men came into the shop and one of them closed the door and the other ordered her to hang up the phone.

They were forced to go into the back rooms, lay down on the floor and the suspects got back to the shop and broke the locker.They managed to take plasma flat screens and cell phones worth R580 000.00.

According to the spokesperson of the local police, Constable Tutu Nkosi, the suspects bumped into another vehicle while police were chasing them. They fled from the scene and left the stolen properties in the vehicle that they were driving.

“A case docket was opened and the investigation is still pending,” added Nkosi.
