A golden voice will be missed

Mpumalanga News learned that bus commuters already missed her for the good advice that she used to give.

MBOMBELA – A cloud of sadness has engulfed the local airwaves as Ligwalagwala FM and its listeners mourn the death of Phumlile “Lanyambose” Mthethwa who passed away after a short illness last Thursday.

She was well known for her wake-up show, Vukuyibambe which used to be aired every weekday from 03:00 to 05:00. Lanyambose was rated as one of the best presenters at the station, as she had put much effort into ensuring she gave her listeners what they wanted in terms of playing good music and education.

Mpumalanga News learned that bus commuters already missed her for the good advice that she used to give. Lanyambose, as she was known on air, embarked in the media industry in the year 2006 when she started to rock the airwaves of a local community radio (BCR FM) hosting a women’s magazine show called Siyathuthuka.

The void is not only felt by Ligwalagwala FM, but also by other local stations such as BCR FM who said they had lost a sister who had inspired others.

Mawethu Ngwenya said, “We will miss her, since we all looked up to her.” To prove that she was a hard worker, she was also nominated as the best traditional music DJ at the South African traditional music awards in 2009 and 2012.

The station manager, Mr Rio Mabunda said, “Her contribution to the station was immense. She has executed her work diligently with dedication, always willing to go the extra mile. She would at times stand in for Lungile Mhango during Siyadvumisa, Sunday Gospel. Her memorial service will be held today at the Barberton Community hall at 12:00 and she will be laid to rest on Saturday.”
