Armed thugs hit soft targets

Family traumatised after armed robbery.

A West Acres family were traumatised when armed men jumped out of a vehicle outside their home and robbed them. This is one of two incidents that occurred over the past couple of days in the city.

Mr Jacques Meiring of Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) said, “A resident of Totius Crescent returned home with her work’s banking when she was robbed.”

He said the incident took place outside the woman’s house.

Meiring said the woman, her daughter and her eight-year-old grandson had just got home at about 16:00.

According to him, a white Yaris with an unknown number of armed men sped up and screeched to a halt in front of the house. “They jumped out of their car, stopped the daughter from closing the gate, then ran to the mother who was just about to get out.

“They pointed guns at them but did not say a word.” Meiring said the men even went to the side of the vehicle where the little boy was sitting and took his schoolbag.

The robbers took the woman’s handbag with R17 000 banking money, her keys for the vehicle and laptop.

She said, “I even banged on their tinted windows as they sped away. My daughter is being treated for trauma after what happened. She thought they were going to shoot me or her child.”

Meanwhile on Monday at 21:00, Mamood Café in Valencia was also hit by armed robbers.

Meiring said BCJ, Hi-Tech Security and and the SAPS responded immediately to the scene. “Two armed men shot one of the female staff on entering the cafe and then immediately fled the scene.”

He said the woman was shot in the lower leg, but no other personnel members were harmed in the incident.

Meiring concluded that the men fled on foot but as yet no suspects have been arrested.
