Two young men die in accident

A 17-year-old grade-11 pupil of Komatipoort Akademie and a friend died when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned early on Saturday.

MALALANE – The victims of a fatal accident have been identified as Jonathan Starker (17) and Louis Rademan (18).

It is not yet certain where they were headed, but according to a Securicon Lowveld manager in the Onderberg, Mr Pieter du Plooy, they were travelling on the Ten Bosch Road towards Hectorspruit from Komatipoort. No other vehicles were involved.

“The accident occurred about 400 metres after the Crocodile Bridge and Marloth park turn-off. This is just speculation, but I think one of the tyres on the vehicle burst causing the driver to loose control,” said Du Plooy.

Spokesman for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Joseph Mabuza, said “the accident occurred around 05:05 and the two occupants in the vehicle tragically lost their lives. It has not yet been confirmed but it seems as if the driver lost control of the vehicle.”

The parents of the boys were too devastated to talk to the media. The school however remembers Starker as a respectable young man who was always on the lookout for the next joke. He showed his friends true friendship and loyalty. He spent his short life touching everyone else’s. Starker was a true friend to all who will be missed and remembered dearly by every learner and teacher.

According to a Malalane Toyota workshop manager who prefers to remain anonymous, Rademan was completing his apprenticeship at the garage. He said ,“He was a good young man, very reliable and gracious. He will be missed.”
