MBOMBELA – There is a bid to educate men about keeping healthy.

Dion Wired has made a collaboration with CANSA to be part of their mission to help educate, raise funds and encourage men in the province to test for cancer.

“We need as many hands as possible so we can help all males based in the province and the country at large. We aspire to have a lot of people to do regular testing for cancer at the local branch so they can receive the treatment necessary if they have any form of cancer,” said Ms Aletta Williams, community mobilizer from CANSA.

She continued, “We are teaching men how to reduce the risk of having cancer by eating and exercising regularly and living a healthier lifestyle. We know fully well that it will not be an easy task, but we appreciate the partnership and commitment shown by the whole team at Dion Wired who agreed to be part of this course and is the first shop to do so.”

The month of November is Men’s Health Month, after last month which was Cancer Month solely dedicated to women. CANSA is requesting every male to grow a beard and shave off their heads bold and join in the fight against cancer in the country. The CANSA team will be travelling around the province raising awareness campaigns and will be in more retail shops in both malls.

Mr Shalto van Rensburg, store manager at Dion said: “We are proud to be in this partnership with CANSA we believe it is a good course and we will help where we can. Burger and I are leading in this campaign and have cut our heads bold and vow to grow our beards for this whole month and will take part in testing for prostate cancer by using the P ball in the shop and encourage our staff to do so too.”

For prostate cancer screening contact the local CANSA branch on their toll free number 08200226622 or visit their website www.cansa.org.za to get more information.
