Two Hazyview attacks occur in one week

After a month of peace from criminal attacks on guest establishments, two lodges were robbed during the week.

HAZYVIEW – Col. Leonard Hlathi, SAPS spokesperson, confirmed that a robbery took place at Blue Jay Lodge situated in the residential area of Hazyview. It was targeted on Monday at 21:30. Three armed robbers held two guests at gunpoint in their room, tied them up and stole a camera and cellphones before escaping over the palisade behind the building.

”Two young men armed with pistols accosted two German guests, aged 48 and 63 while they were sitting on the patio outside their guest room,” says Hlathi. “The criminals forced the guests into the room and demanded cash. They also stole three wedding rings, Canon digital camera, four credit cards, two drivers licences, Nokia Lumina cell phone, four handbags, travel insurance cards, wrist watches and 4 500 euros in cash.”

On Thursday at about 02:00, two criminals overpowered the security guard at Nwanakalile Lodge on the Sabie Road. The robbers then gained access to one of the chalets via a window and proceeded to rob two guests of various items. They threw a sharp object at the man while the woman ran and locked herself in the bathroom. Meanwhile the security guard managed to free himself and pressed the panic button for help.The thugs escaped and fled the scene.
