Mother and son brutally killed

The victims’ bodies were discovered on Sunday by neighbours who wanted to buy airtime vouchers and as a result alerted the police.

NELSPRUIT – The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela on Monday has expressed his dismay and shock about the brutal, senseless and horrific killing of 46-year-old Ms Alice Magagula and her 25-year-old son, Mduduzi Magagula.

The victims’ bodies were discovered on Sunday by neighbours who wanted to buy airtime vouchers and alerted the police. When the police arrived at the scene at Boekenhouthoek in Mohlawunyane Section near Kwaggafontein, they found the body of Mduduzi lying on the kitchen floor with his throat slit. They proceeded further in the house and discovered the body of Alice lying on the floor of her bedroom, her throat was also slit.

The police also noticed that the house appeared to have been ransacked.

General Ntobela said that he was disturbed by this incident which he described as barbaric and inhuman. He said that people who are self proclaimed as heroes by causing tessunoil and raising fear within communities by raping, robbing and killing innocent people do not deserve any freedom.

“We need to squeeze these heartless individuals out of the community, however that can be possible if the community work closely together with the police to exchange information about criminal activities,” said Ntobela.

No one has been arrested with regard to the killing of Alice and her son, thus we are calling on the public to assist.

Anyone with information is requested to contact Warrant Officer Xolani Mashinini at 073 193 4910 or 013 986 0400.
