Ancyl ready to rebuild

The Ehlanzeni Ancyl met at the Mbombela Civic Centre where a number of issues were ironed out, including that of a formal regional congress.

MBOMBELA – The ANC Youth League’s (Ancyl) provincial task team (PTT) is ready to rebuild its regional and provincial structures, which were disbanded by the mother body following reports of ill discipline within the ranks of this youth movement.

The provincial structure, tasked with the responsibility of rescuing the league, informed media houses last week at the provincial headquarters of the ANC, January Che Masilela House, that they would be able to take regions to their congresses and a provincial congress in December as per the call of the ANC nationally.

“After considering reports from regional task teams, we are confident that our rebuilding processes of structures are on course. We will therefore be able to take our regions to their congresses very soon and to a provincial congress by December 2013,” said the provincial coordinator, Mr Vusi Mkhatshwa.

Asked whether they had already set dates and deadlines, Mkhatshwa confirmed that although they had been set there was still a number of procedures that needed to be followed, but stressed that regions were now ready for their congresses.

Last Saturday, the Ehlanzeni Ancyl met at the Mbombela Civic Centre where a number of issues was ironed out, including that of a formal regional congress. He added that the PTT was satisfied with the progress of regional structures and was confident that proper and formal youth league structures would soon be fully operational.

During this briefing session, the PTT further reaffirmed its stance of campaigning and mobilising the youth to register and vote for the ANC in next year’s elections.

“The regional reports further indicate that as the Ancyl, we are on par in terms of the elections campaigns.

“We had a number of campaigns through-out the province and will continue to work hard to ensure that we deliver the youth vote in the province, so that the ANC receives 90% in the upcoming elections,” he indicated. Further probed on the purported 90% they wanted to obtain, despite about four million youths not being registered to vote and some having expressed their reluctance to do so, he said, “We’re quite aware of the current circumstances.

“We’ve prepared campaigns and initiatives that will ensure that we lure youths to fully participate. Those will run from now until election time, and in that manner, we will ensure we emerge with a major victory,” concluded Mkhatshwa.
