Suspects arrested for allegedly raping pensioners

The pensioner was helped by passersby ahead of police being called.

KANYAMAZANE – Two pensioners were recently sexually abused over the past few weekends around this area.

The latest incident happened over the weekend at Emnotfweni Section 6 around 00:30 when the suspects broke and entered the shack of an 88-year-old pensioner who lives with her disabled granddaughter who is 16-years-old.

According to police information, the girl was raped in the shack while the pensioner was abducted and allegedly raped and left about 700 metres from her house. A television set and cellphones including a bed were also stolen.

The pensioner was helped by passersby.   As a result police were called and the rape cases were opened.

This incident comes barely three weeks after a 77-year-old pensioner was raped and robbed of her pension money at Spot 5.

KaNyamazane police had since arrested two suspects in connection with the cases. Thamsanqa Nkosi (18) and Mancoba Matsebula (25), both from Pienaar appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on October 28. They were remanded in custody and will appear for their bail application in the same court on on November 12.

WO Andries Skwambane, spokesman for the local police, said CPF members and patrol teams were happy about this success. “Our communities must know that crime does not pay, we will work hard together with residents to ensure that we do away with all sorts of crime in this area,” he said.
