Suspect confesses to raping minor

He was convicted of statutory rape in the Nelspruit Regional Court and sentenced to five years in prison wholly suspended for fives years.

MBOMBELA – A 64-yeear-old man has confessed to the rape of a minor. In his pleading statement, Mr Elliot Alpheus Chauke of Block C confessed to unlawfully and intentionally having sex with a minor, aged 12, until she was 14 years old.

“I proposed love to her, she subsequently conceived and miscarried the baby,” reads the statement.

He was convicted of statutory rape in the Nelspruit Regional Court and sentenced to five years in prison wholly suspended for fives years.

The same court also sentenced Bonginkosi Frank Sambo (25) to four years in prison suspended for five years.

He also pleaded guilty to the rape of a 14-year old minor. In his confession statement he said the sex was consensual.

“You also have to inform your future employer about this, failure to do so you will be sentenced to R40 000 of seven years in prison. You are also not allowed to work with children,” said the magistrate in his sentencing.
