MBOMBELA – Working on Fire (WoF) has succeeded in fighting unwanted veld and forest fires during fire season (May – October) which affects human lives, wild animals, vegetation and plantation.

According to the General Manager for WoF in Mpumalanga, Martin Bolton WoF was fighting veld fires together with their partners which are Fire Protection Associations (FPA’S), Mpumalanga Tourism and Park Agency (MTPA), private land owners and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Bolton said if they were not working in partnership they would not have achieved controlling unwanted veld fires.

“We worked hard to achieve fighting fire during the fire season “, he said.

Bolton encouraged all fire fighters to keep on committing themselves by doing good job in communities.

Johan Deacon from Seme Fire Protection Association thanked communities for being positive and supportive on fighting fire.

“We are requesting Municipalities to work together with us to achieve more next year”, he concluded.

It is not yet over since the fire season is continuing up to the end of October. Communities have been advised to be wary of dangerous fires, to take caution not to cause unwanted veld fires and report immediately to fire services.
