Family survives death plot

Tonga police have confirmed the incident and said they were investigating a case of house robbery

KAMHLUSHWA – A woman claims to have survived an assassination attempt on Sunday morning when the alleged assassins confessed to her that they’d been hired to kill her and had been paid R20 000 for the job.

A distraught Ms Nomvula Magagula told this newspaper that it was around midnight on Saturday when her alleged assassins broke into her house while she was asleep. “When I woke up to check what was happening, I was confronted by three armed black males, one slender, another one fattish and all wearing hooded jackets.

“They ordered me not to make any noise, but I wanted to alert the neighbours to be alerted. That was when they informed me that they’d been hired to kill me and asked if I knew who my enemies were.

“They said if I gave them money and my car keys they would not kill me and I obliged. I gave them R3 000 and R1 500 and handed over the keys. They tied me up together with my child and inserted a pillow case into my mouth so that I could not scream.

“Unfortunately for them, they could not manage to start my vehicle and fled the scene at around 03:00. My son was able to untie himself and freed me.”

Tonga police have confirmed the incident and said they were investigating a case of house robbery. No arrests have been made.
