First-ever casino in the Platinum City underway

After three years public hearings were conducted on the Casino, finally developments are underway for the Peeromont Hotels Casino and Resorts in Tubatse.

Finally the people of Sekhukhune will enjoy the luxury of the first-ever casino

to be situated in the Platinum City of Greater Tubatse Municipality.

This came about after the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Peermont Hotels,

Casinos and Resorts in the area, held last week after nearly three years since

public hearings were conducted on the issue in Tubatse.

Delays of this development, which is believed to create hundreds of job opportunities during and after its completion, were mainly caused by court cases over land claims.

In November 2011, a convoy of lawyers, judges and the claimants of

various portions visited the municipality to inspect the land, which was in

dispute in the case LCC 119/2010 in the Randburg Land Claims Court of South

Africa against various developers of the Farm Leeuwvallei

297 KT.

The claims were dismissed by the Land Claim Court by the end of 2011 and this had

since brought a lot of development to the area, including the two malls and the

construction for the 6 295m² Thaba Moshate Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort.

The developers say it will offer an entertainment complex comprising a

casino with 150 slot machines, eight gaming tables, an 80-key modern and

contemporary select-services, three-star Peermont Metcourt hotel, a conference

centre, a 148-seat restaurant, show bar, teenage entertainment area with video

and electronic games, child-care facilities and an impressive pool terrace and

boma.

“The casino will drive enterprise development, job creation and local

development within the Greater Tubatse Municipality, while making an investment

of over R320 million in the Limpopo province,” explained Mr Thabo Mokoena, the

Peermont Development & Compliance executive.

“Peermont will bring an exceptional offering to the beautiful province of Limpopo while pioneering a sustainable enterprise for the community.

“The group is dedicated to sourcing labour, goods and services from the local region as part of our commitment to sustainable growth for the province.”

Burgersfort was a logical choice since the town has strong potential for further expansion as new mines continue to develop around Thaba Moshate.

Mr Jackson Tjatji, a member of the community, told Mpumalanga Mirror that they were happy about the development although they were concerned about shares in the casino.
