Izodela community centre renovated

MEC Mahlangu was joined by Cllr Salome Sithole and they painted the walls of the dilapidated structure.

LYNVILLE – The Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport renovated the Izodela Community Centre in eMalahleni Local Municipality on July 17 as part of its Mandela Month programme.

The MEC Ms Dikeledi Mahlangu, was joined by the local executive mayor,

Cllr Salome Sithole, and they painted the walls of the dilapidated structure.

The centre, established 13 years ago, was where the local youth gathered after school hours to participate in drama, fine arts, woodwork, theatre and other art-related skills. As part of its renovation, the department also worked on the wiring and plumbing.

The wheel of community service for Mandela Month was on its third leg after the department successfully held various events.

It first kick-started the programme at Dipaliseng Local Municipality at Siyathemba at Balfour in July, when the HOD, Mr Kgopane Mohlasedi and the local executive mayor of Dipaleseng,

Cllr Noliqwa Sarah Nhlapo, patched potholes, donated food parcels, sanitary towels, graded the access roads and constructed three houses.

The beneficiary of one of them,

Mr Solomon Sibaya, who is unemployed and blind, was overjoyed to receive a house. “I am happy that the department will be giving me a house during the month of my personal hero the former state president,

Mr Nelson Mandela. I have been praying very hard to have a decent house,” he said.
