Community takes revenge

Members of the community burnt down three houses, immediately after funeral.

ELUKWATINI – A 50-year-old woman, Ms Thembile Hlatshwayo, and her 26-year-old son, Mr Charles Mtshali, briefly appeared in the Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder.

Police information alleged that on September 14, Hlatshwayo, a tavern owner, had an argument with her estranged husband, Mr Themba Khumalo, who was with his friends at the tavern. This led to her chasing him and his friends away. The group then went to another tavern nearby.

Information at the police’s disposal revealed that Hlatshwayo allegedly colluded with her son, Mtshali and his friends to go and assault Khumalo.

It is alleged that the son, together with his friends, went to the tavern where they assaulted and stabbed Khumalo with a knife.

After the assault, Khumalo had to be transported to hospital for medical attention. The following day, September 15, he succumbed to injuries. A murder docket was opened and a thorough probe by police led to the pair being apprehended on Tuesday.

Hlatshwayo and Mtshali were remanded in custody and the case was postponed to September 26 for bail application.
