Two Ghanaians arrested for counterfeit goods

Two foreign nationals arrested after being found with more than 47 bags of counterfeit shoes.

Nelspruit – Two Ghanaian nationals Anthony Kwane (40) and Anthony Begchie (27), appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in counterfeit goods.

The two were arrested on September 15 at 23:40 after police from Schoemansdal received received information about two men who were carrying huge bags at Jeppes Reef.

The police responded promptly to the information and indeed found two in possession of 47 bags containing suspected counterfeit running shoes worth an estimated street value of R280 000.

Custom officials were summoned and they confirmed that the loot was counterfeit. As a result the two were arrested on the spot.

The suspects were remanded in custody and their matter will be heard again on September 23, pending further investigation.
