Security company depriving trainees job opportunities

It is alleged that a number of students who completed their courses at Dumelang Security waited for months for the company to sign their SOB (Security Officers' Board) form which is required by the Security Industry Regulations Authority for the students to enter the job market after completing their courses.

NELSPRUIT – A locally based training company has been accused of depriving its graduates of their right to enter the job market.

It is alleged that a number of students who completed their courses at Dumelang Security waited for months for the company to sign their SOB (Security Officers’ Board) form which is required by the Security Industry Regulations Authority for the students to enter the job market after completing their courses.

They allege that in their attempts to solve the problem, they were referred back to the training institution where representative couldn’t give them straight answers. “They told us that the official who was responsible for this procedure, had resigned and they couldn’t help us. Some even asked us to pay an extra R500 to get it done.”

“We don’t understand how we can register, learn and graduate and then be delayed like this. We are adults, with children and families to look after. We need the company to resolve this problem,” they said.

They also reported the matter to the Small Claims Court in Nelspruit and a letter of demand was issued against the company, which specified that it repay them R3 700 within the next 14 days.
