Zazi campaign comes to Mbombela Stadium

Campaign aimed at educating young girls about problems that they face on a daily basis.

NELSPRUIT – The Zazi “Know Yourself” Campaign continues to do its rounds and the next stop is Mbombela Stadium this Saturday.

Young girls are invited to be part of this journey of discovering themselves and their worth and most importantly, learn how to behave as young women. Zazi is a project aimed at improving the quality of health and well-being of all young girls in the province by proving needs-based, people-centered, equitable health-care delivery through an integrated network of services by a cadre of dedicated and well-skilled health workers.

The campaign focuses on educating young girls about what they deal with on a daily basis and has open talks with them in the most honest way which helps get them to open up about the things they partake in as teenagers in their respective schools and communities.

Zazi tackles social ills that teenagers are faced with such as teenage pregnancy, “sugar daddies” (the dating of older men), dropping out of school, peer pressure, and self-confidence. Ms Gugu Nyarenda who heads the campaign said, “The big dream that I have and share with the people I work with on this project is to change the mentality of young girls, and give them a drive to live for – something of substance.

“I want them to want to work for their own cars, clothes and houses instead of looking at ‘sugar daddies’ to provide them with these things and in the process risk contracting HIV,” she said.

MEC for health and social services, Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini and Miss Mpumalanga, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene will accompany Nyarenda and partake in the talks with the girls. Kunene will share some of her experiences as teenagers look up to her and with her age comes a better understanding of these social ills.

All high school girls are invited to this educational event that will open their minds to the right way of living.

It starts from 10:00 to 14:00 at Mbombela Stadium and entrance is free.
