School burglaries on the increase

Police arrest four suspects.

PIENAAR – Schools that don’t have proper security are at high risk since criminals have been targeting them of late, even using them as a base to conduct illegal activities without any disturbance.

There has been a substantial increase in the number of school burglaries over the past few months.

The high number of tip-offs received by the local police station confirms this.

Through the dedication and hard work of law enforcement, it has managed to apprehend four suspects, including a learner who is alleged to be the mastermind behind these kind of burglaries in the area.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, Col Harris Jali indicated the police had received several tip-offs about the burglaries at EJ Nsigwane. “We arrested four suspects who were found in possession of stolen computers from the school and we have noticed that since August, schools burglaries have increased,” said Jali.

He added that the suspects appeared briefly in court on charges of business robbery and being in possession of stolen property and were denied bail.

Police investigations are continuing.
