MBOMBELA – The Executive Mayor of Ehlanzeni District Municipality, Clr Letta Shongwe together with learners from Khaliphani High School, in Kanyamazane held a dialogue on women issues to commomerate Women’s Month.
Shongwe explained to the learners that women fought for human rights of the people of this country. “Today we are celebrating the achievements that women fought for. Women are in high positions, they are directors in their jobs and some are parliamentarians . In this country we have Ms Nkosazana Zuma , who is the first woman to the chairperson of the can Union and Ms Joyce Banda who heads SADC. Before,as women,we were not allowed to be in high positions.”
The learners requested to be clarified about the 50-50 gender equality. “This is not for women to bully men, but it is about the balance in society. The best advice I can give you as young women, is that education is the key to success. It will change your lives forever. In future I am going to invite you to the Women’s Indaba, whereby, women of substance are invited to address other women on their issues,” concluded
The learners were accompanied by their educator, Mr Aaron Makhusha.
