Woman celebrate their day in style

Young women are given a platform to network with established ones.

NELSPRUIT – “The aim is to give young women the platform to network with well-established ones,” says Ms Faith Makhubedu.

She said this at the launch and first edition of the “Incredible Woman” at the Lowveld Botanical Garden last week Friday. The event was attended by the runner-up of Miss South Africa 1992, who was also a semi-finalist of Miss Universe in 1995, Ms Augustine Masilela-Chuene and other young women.

According to the organisers, Makhubedu and Ms Kholiwe Nkambule, the event was to unite them during this Women’s Day, to be in their comfort zone, talk about things that affect them daily, such as which is fashion, beauty, finance and so on.

The women were taught about the secrets of success, time management, how to handle their finances, make-up and fashion.

“You need to get up and be yourself, show where you are because nobody but you can do that,” said Masilela-Chuene. She added that women need to develop their habits and study them carefully, achieve their goals when they understand their callings.

“Know your starting point.”

Some got themselves jewellery and body stuff in the ruffle competition, while others were treated with goodie bags with lots of magazines and hair products and a cake. According to Ms Felicia Muwayi, first runner-up of Miss Mpumalanga 2013 and finalist of Miss Earth, said it is important to keep going even when you feel you can’t. “Determination and hard work is always key to achieving whatever you put your mind to.”

The event, which will be held twice a year, will benefit lots of women as the organisers believe there can never be enough events to empower them.

Ms Thabisile Maziya of Nelspruit, who also attended said, “It was beautiful, well organised and the speakers motivated women and inspired them to live a life of independence, live up to their potential and set realistic goals for themselves, which is important nowadays as there are so much young people who are unable to make a living because of lack of funds and unemployment.”
