Schools targeted by criminals

The levels of these crimes infringe on us as educators. In some schools children are approachable after certain hours

MBOMBELA – Schools around the province still face violent crimes ranging from bullying, cyber bullying, drug abuse, xenophobic attacks, gang-related crimes, sexual and gender based violence.

This was heard during the launch of the Safety and Security Summit held this week at Ingwenyama Lodge.

“The levels of these crimes infringe on us as educators. In some schools children are approachable after certain hours,” explains Ms Nokuthula Mthethwa. She adds that burglary and theft were also a thorn in the flesh even in newly created Maths and Science hubs.

“We deploy the best resources, put in alarm systems which thieves tamper with and steal expensive items from our schools. We hope this summit will help us to further strengthen those relationships with stakeholders and the police,.” she said.
