Whizz kids make their school proud

The Mathematics Olympiad is run annually by South African Mathematics Foundation in collaboration with Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Department of Education.

KARINO – Five pupils from Meridian Karino School will participate for the first time in the Siyanqoba Mathematics Olympiad.

A grade 11 pupil Lehane Sibanda, will represent the school in the senior category while four grade nine pupils, Machiri Lennox, Mncube Matilda, Mndawe Ntando and Martinet Sawaya, will participate in the junior category.

“They were selected based on their academic performance, as well as their participation in and attendance of the Saturday Olympaid training classes. Those who were not selected for the teams will only write their individual tests,” explained Ms Faith Mathebula, the school’s marketing officer.

Mathebula explained that the Mathematics Olympiad is run annually by South African Mathematics Foundation in collaboration with Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Department of Education.

The school has high hopes that these pupils will represent them well in the competition to be held on September 10 at Lowveld High.

The Meridian Karino School held its training, not only to prepare the pupils for the competition, but also to improve their daily problem-solving skills. Training takes place on Saturdays.
