Primary Schools jive for joy

The win came after the pupils participated in the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition by submitting their best artwork to the store.

WHITE RIVER – The local Cashbuild store recently invested R120 000 to eight schools from around the area after their victory in the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition.

Boschrand Primary, Laeveld Akademie, Embonisweni Primary, AA Khumalo Primary, Uplands Preparatory, and White River Primary each received R15 000 from the store at its official opening ceremony on August 4.

Mr Peter Moreku, the principal of Boschrand Primary School in Msholozi expressed his excitement after receiving the voucher, adding that it would go a long way in assisting the school, which faces water-supply challenges due to the ongoing drought. He said the money would be used to buy new water tanks and a fence to enclose the vegetable garden.

The principal of AA Khumalo Primary School added that this would give them the opportunity to upgrade the school’s assembly shelter, as well as paint and fix broken windows and doors. The principal of White River Primary said the school would use the voucher to rebuild its Wendy house.

According to Ms Babalwa Jonga from Wired Communications, the win came after the pupils participated in the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition by submitting their best artwork to the store.

“The artworks were displayed during the ceremony and will remain on display at Cashbuild for the next six years. Three winners from each school received gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place, respectively. The manager’s choice award was presented to the overall winner, Teddy Banda from Boschrand Primary School.
He also received a stationery pack and a glass trophy,” added Jonga.
Cashbuild’s Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 15 years ago and has since helped more than 2 500 schools in Southern Africa with over R29-million worth of building materials.
