Kid’s literature launched

Each school received 12 books for a group of six learners. Grade 10 pupils from Sitintile also received these books, as they will be the quiz masters.

KANYAMAZANE – Sitintile Secondary School recently launched the Phendulani Kid’s Literature Quiz which will help develop the four language skills, namely speaking, writing, listening and reading.
The launch was held last Thursday in preparation for the main event in September. Tenteleni, Likhweti and Likazi primary schools are taking part in the competition.
Each school received 12 books for a group of six learners. Grade 10 pupils from Sitintile also received these books, as they will be the quiz masters.
Educator Jones Mkasi said, “We have realised that learners have challenges with the four language skills. English is used as a medium of instruction, and is necessary to communicate. Spoken language is different from writing,” he said.
Mkasi said their long-term objective is to have language trainers in the community to assist in the skill of writing.
He explained that they suggest an Imbizo be held for educators to take part in the literature quiz.
Thembi Mashaba, a media advisor from Ehlanzeni District for school libraries and information services, encouraged pupils to read as it improves vocabulary. She said the initiative will help schoolchildren develop themselves.
Teachers from the three schools expressed their excitement and stated that their learners were eager to read.
They are excited to see how it will help their children become confident in language and be more creative.
