Mozambican truck driver arrested for smuggling drugs and liquor

Sealed boxes of Gordon’s London Dry Gin and box of Smirnoff 1818 to the value of R16 400 were found hidden inside the truck.

KOMATIPOORT – A truck driver was remanded in custody by the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday after he was arrested with more than R600 000 worth of heroin and sealed boxes of alcohol.

Francisco Langa (31)a truck driver from Mozambique, was arrested during a roadblock at the Komatipoort port of entry on Thursday while he was on his way to Johannesburg.

When the truck was searched, four packets laden with heroin and a number of sealed boxes of Gordon’s London Dry Gin and box of Smirnoff 1818 to the value of R16 400, were found hidden inside the truck.

The suspect was charged for dealing in drugs and contravening the Covid-19 regulations.

He is expected back to appear in the same court on Tuesday.
