Pienaar escapees rearrested five days later

According to police, they were all working as a group in the commission of 32 serious cases of house robberies and one murder.

The four suspects who escaped from lawful custody at Pienaar Police Station this week were rearrested on Saturday.

This is according to Brig Leonard Hlathi, the provincial police spokesperson who revealed that three of the suspects were found hiding at a house in Tonga while the other was traced and cornered after fleeing in a car. 

The suspects,Sifiso Mathonsi, Senzo Nyambi,Bongani Bogra Mpila and Vusi Ceko escaped from the Pienaar Police Station on Monday, February 3.

“Police would like to sincerely appreciate the excellent collaboration between the community as well as the police through the SAPS’s Crime Intelligence members who tirelessly gathered information that led to the rearrest of the foursome,” said Brig Hlathi.

They are expected to appear in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on the prescribed date(s), facing an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody on top of the house burglary cases, as well as murder.
