Suspects arrested for terrorising community with unlicensed firearms

The suspects have been terrorising the Shabalala and Nyongane community and committed various crimes such as business and armed robberies among others.

MBOMBELA – Four men aged between 26 and 41, will appear at the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of firearms and ammunition without licences. The men were arrested individually in Shabalala, Nyongane and Hazyview during a police operation yesterday.

The police received a tip-off about a man who accidentally shot and wounded himself with a firearm. They then went to the man’s house and arrived at the same time as he did after being discharged from hospital. Police proceeded to conduct a search and the firearm, a revolver, was discovered under his bed. He was then arrested with his brother who also in the house.

“A further probe led the police to the houses of the two other suspects after they were informed that they too were allegedly in possession of unlicensed firearms. Upon arrival at the residences, police recovered a two firearms, a revolver and a hunting rifle, one was hidden under a pillow and the other in a hole outside the house,” said the police.

Police established that the suspects have been terrorising the Shabalala and Nyongane community and committed various crimes such as business and armed robberies among others.
