Suspect wanted for tax fraud re-arrested by Hawks

It is alleged that the suspect absconded court four times while he was out on bail of R70 000, 00 which has since been forfeited to the state.

A man accused of defrauding the South African Revenue Services R3 million was arrested by the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on Tuesday.

Godfrey Sifiso Tony Lukhele (33) allegedly submitted fraudulent VAT returns to the South African Revenue Services twice in March 2013 for R3 million. Initially he was arrested and absconded court four times while he was on bail of R70 000,00 which has since been forfeited to the state.

Lukhele’s targeted the same institution from 2013 until 2015 where he committed fraud in Mbombela.  He appeared at the Nelspruit District Court the same day for the matter to be placed on the court roll.

The case has since been postponed to July 19 at the same court and he remains in custody.
