Man arrested for murder of a police officer

The suspect appeared in court yesterday and the the Hawks are still searching for the third suspect.

KABOKWENI – Freeman Thulani Maisane was arrested by Members of Mpumalanga Hawks and TRT Nelspruit for the murder of a police officer the late Sergeant Thembisile Ndlovu.

He appeared before the Kabokweni Magistrate Court yesterday for possession of unlicensed firearm and the case was transferred to Mhala Magistrate Court in Thulamahashe for a formal bail application on both cases of murder and possession of unlicensed firearm.

According to the Hawks, Maisane was found at his hiding place in Mhluzi, Middelburg in the early hours of last Saturday. The arrest followed the double murder of Sergeant Ndlovu and her husband Jabulani Khoza on December 1 in Bushbuckridge. The couple was awakened by the suspect in the house and upon inspection, they were shot by three suspects. The late Detective Sergeant Ndlovu of Calcutta SAPS shot dead one suspect.

However, the remaining pair continued shooting as Ndlovu and Khoza succumbed to their injuries. The suspects fled the scene with the family’s vehicle which was later found abandoned within the Bushbuckridge area.

“Members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit immediately took over the investigation and followed leads which led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the firearm. We are still searching for the third suspect,” said the Hawks.
