Ex – Hawks members convicted guilty of fraud

The two were found guilty on charges of four charges of fraud, theft, forgery, and perjury.

Two former members of the organised crime unit (Hawks) in Mpumalanga, Mr Richard Lekotswane Nkwanyana (48) and Peter Mathekanyana Molapo (58), appeared in the Middelburg Regional Court on Wednesday.

Both accused were stationed at Middelburg.

Nkwanyana was the head of the anti-corruption unit while Molapo was stationed at the Hawks offices in Middelburg.

They allegedly colluded and submitted false subsistence and travel claims to the police that they were booked at a guest house.

During trial, the state, led by Advocate Patrick Nkuna, heard the testimonies of the owner of the guest house, evidence from the police’s finance personnel, and a handwriting expert who testified that the invoices were forged

The matter was postponed to November 2 for sentencing.

Nkwanyana has another pending case.
He is standing trial on three counts of theft and three counts of defeating the ends of justice. The trial for this matter is set for November 7 to 8 in the Nelspruit Regional Court; Nkwanyana has in the meantime been dismissed from the police sector.
